Romain Gavras Talks About Working With Rob To 'Io Donna' (Italy)

Google Translation - We changed a few things to make more sense
Where did you get the inspiration for the video?
Working closely with the team of Dior. Hundred lifetimes in a day and the words of James Dean: "Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you were to die today." The result is a character who goes through emotions and different places. Then, with the cinematographer André Chemetoff and production designer Jean -Michel Bertin, we looked for the best visual grammar to tell this story fragmented.

How would you describe the Dior Homme man?
The man we want to represent is someone light, at ease in any situation. It could be on a deserted beach, in a luxury hotel or in an empty house in which he has just moved: he would always be himself. We wanted to move away from the stereotype of the successful, rich and arrogant, and that is why we have added details such as the eighties car that leads to a certain point. The woman is another great way to characterize a man: in the video she is a simple girl, who doesn't dress in a showy way.

Tell us story from the set?
We shot in Brooklyn, Rockaway Beach, immediately after the hurricane. Looking at the beach scene, you can note their signs, for example, the very high sand or cabins destroyed , which gave a strange, unexpected look in a video for a luxury perfume. Oh, and we also ended up in the sea with the car ... It took two boats and a tractor to bring it to the dry sand!

The main difficulty?
Probably the fact of having to film in so many places at once. We had to run all over New York with Rob, who is a big star in Hollywood, dodging paparazzi and all the rest, to not reveal the images of the campaign before the release. Also, before meeting Rob, I had no idea how it would go because we had hectic, very active schedule and sometimes actors don't like working under pressure. But he was great, he gave more than he asked, was with me one hundred percent. In addition, during the shoot, we had great fun.

What is your favorite scene
I really like the part on the beach, the first scene we shot. During the first shot there's something always interesting happening at that moment you'll know if what you had in mind will work or not. It was very nice to hear that it will work.

How was working with Rob?
Rob is extremely curious, he is leaving the phase of the Twilight "poster boy" to play more mature roles. He's already making interesting and choices. Speaking as a director, I can say that he's very easy to work with, an actor able to give so much.

Rob Starring In 'Misoneism', A Short Film Directed by Zach Hill from Death Grips?

Rob with Zach Hill and MC Ride from Death Grips at Beyonce's concert earlier this year

ETA: Pitchforks just posted that Rob is probably not doing a movie with Death Grips' Zach Hill. Even on their article they're not sure of what's going on. Is this part of a "social experiment" as mentioned on the letter released by the band (posted below) to Pigeons and Planes and now denied to Pitchforks? Well we'll wait and see.

From Pitchforks (read the full article at the link)
However, the band tells Pitchfork that none of this is true. There is no short film directed by Zach Hill and starring Robert Pattinson. They don't know who sent the letter.

But, this being Death Grips... who knows what's going on.

ETA2: Colin Hanks spoke to Consequences of Sound and said he didn't make a movie with the band.

From Consequences of Sound:
Hanks tells Consequence of Sound that news of him making a movie with Death Grips is untrue. So it definitely looks ilike we can chalk this one up as a hoax. Sorry, folks.

ETA 3: Pigeons and Planes posted an update to their post saying that someone claiming to be Death Grips' management confirmed the letter, but the confirmation might be fake. So we're back to wait and see...

From Pigeons and Planes
UPDATE: According to Pitchfork, the band has denied that any of this is true, but this may be all part of the plan. Someone claiming to be Death Grips’ management has confirmed the original letter with us, saying they are trying to keep this low key. But there is a chance that this confirmation is fake. Stay tuned.

ETA 4: Death Grips posted about the "letter" on their tumblr account. You can see the update by just checking the page, but if you follow them, you can see it on you Dashborard - posted yesterday. (You can also see the post by clicking on the url's permalink)

we don't know who wrote the letter. but soon.

Original Post

From Pigeons and Planes
Death Grips have been in the news lately for canceling dates and not showing up to scheduled concerts, but they’ve been productive during their time off. Today, they sent out a press release (sent “exclusively to 10 smaller websites”) to let people know what they’ve been up to, and in addition to starting a record label, they’ll be releasing books, artwork, and a film. The film is about underground prostitution, and in line with what Death Grips has been doing since day one, it sets out to shed light “in a shocking and abrasive way.” Read the full message below:

This is a message from DEATH GRIPS.

We have recently founded a record label, created via a very unique relationship with Harvest/Capitol, to be distributed by Caroline. On here, we anticipate our creative endeavours being achieved with unaltered possibilities. Not only does it function as a medium to distribute any upcoming music we create, but it will also be used as a platform to showcase other forms of art. Stefan Burnett, our vocalist, will soon be releasing a very limited number of hardback books for his visual artwork, with the help of PictureBox. Not only that, but Zach Hill is currently wrapping up a short film he directed with an OST by DEATH GRIPS. The film is entitled Misoneism, is shot entirely in monochrome film, and follows the exploits of a young man forced into the underground prostitution business in Brazil. Starring Robert Pattinson and Colin Hanks, the film hopes to shed light on the matter in a shocking and abrasive way. The film is slated for a Spring 2014 release with a one time only screening at Sacramento’s historic Guild Theater. Further details on Misoneism will be released in the coming weeks through our Tumblr (now wiped clean and specifically dedicated to Misoneism.) A 2 minute trailer is to be released on the aforementioned link very soon.

Birds, released on 21st of August, can now be officially announced as a cut from Misoneism’s OST. The track was received extremely well.

This message has been sent to exclusively 10 smaller websites to accentuate the minimal approach we are going to approach the promotion of Misoneism. The film was conceived with the ethos of Sacramento’s 70′s independent films, most of which were fairly low budget and gained, at best, modest popularity. In a sense, the promotion is a social experiment. We purposefully employed very high profile actors to star in an experimental, avant-garde film, promoted only on smaller indie music websites and publications for reasons that we will reveal in the upcoming press kit.

m0re to come.

- DEATH GRIPS

Birds by the Death Grops that will be in Misoneism’s OST

In May 2013 Death Grips announced in an official message that Zach was currently working on writing, directing, and soundtracking a feature film (source)
Zach is currently writing, directing and soundtracking an original feature film. The movie is of his own creation, fictionally based and not related to the group. The film will be soundtracked with all new Death Grips music. He is also working on and recording the new Death Grips album at the moment. Death Grips is Stefan. Zach. Andy. Zach is very much still in Death Grips.

Rob Will Attend 'Australians in Film' Awards & Benefit Dinner in LA Next Week - October 24th

Australia will flex its Hollywood muscle in Los Angeles next week, with Baz Luhrmann, Jacki Weaver, Joel Edgerton and Alex O'Loughlin among the list of Aussies to be honoured at a benefit dinner in Los Angeles.

The dinner, organised by LA-based non-profit Australians in Film, will also include plenty big name non-Aussies, headed by Twilight heart-throb Robert Pattinson, Oscar-nominated director David O. Russell and Matrix duo Andy and Lana Wachowski who will present awards.

Luhrmann and Edgerton's Blue-Tongue Films collective will receive the Fox Studios Australia-sponsored Orry-Kelly International Award, named after Australia's most prolific Oscar-winning costume designer, who won three Academy Awards in the 1950s for An American in Paris, Les Girls and Some Like It Hot.

Weaver, who became hot property in Hollywood with her 2010 performance in the Blue-Tongue crime drama Animal Kingdom, and Hawaii Five-O star O'Loughlin, will receive Breakthrough Awards.

Australia's touted next big thing actor, Sullivan Stapleton, who stars in the upcoming 300 sequel, 300: Rise of an Empire and had a role opposite Sean Penn in Gangster Squad, will also receive a Breakthrough Award.

The AusFilm international award will be presented to Warner Bros president of worldwide production Steve Papazian.

The annual benefit dinner, to be held at LA's InterContinental hotel next Thursday (October 24), will support Australians in Film's mission to usher Australian filmmakers into the international market and provide educational programs for the organisation's members.

Contrats on being the new Dior Homme ambassador! How do you feel?
I was coming to the end of Twilight when Dior approached me, and I was really shocked at first because the name alone sounded almost legendary. I remember meeting the creative team, and their interest in an artistic collaboration convinced me.

Are you easily convinced?
Easily! No. Ha ha! I wouldn't have considered this real acting when I first started my career. But I've done some movies, and grown in many ways. When we sat down to discuss the concept, everybody seemed quite fearless. I thought it could be similar to doing a short movie and became really excited. It was challenging, and an interesting way to complement my film works.

What's your most unforgettable scent?
My dad's from Yorkshire, where the moors have miles of heather, and we used to go there every Christmas. I'll always remember the smell - it's incredible.

And what's your favorite scent?
I like the smell of people. Ha ha! It's really odd but, to me, you can often tell a person's nature from the scent he or she uses. I think we hang out with people because subconsciously we like how good they smell. Or is it just me?!

With so many Dior promo interviews (check them all HERE) I don't believe any of the quotes in this interview are new, but we added the translation anyway.

Translation
One of the weirdest encounters that Rob Pattinson had when he was "out of character" was with an intrepid seven year old fan who passionately asked him "Bite me, please." The phrase sums up the desire of millions of women around the world, of all ages, that wouldn't care to feel a bite on the carotid from him .
But Rob is slowly leaving behind the ghost of Edward Cullen, the famous vampire from The Twilight Saga. No wonder that this artistic grown was responsible for the invitation to be the new face of the Dior Homme campaign. "Dior is a name so iconic, and I love what people call the French touch," says the actor . The campaign video, directed by Romain Gavras ,shows us a sexy 'bad boy' version of Rob. Opposite the model Camille Rowe at the sound of 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zeppelin, he personifies the cool urban young man, elegant, adventurous, and seductive. "The idea to redefine a classic fragrance was very attractive to me, and anything with a "heavier" air, associated with Dior, brings an interesting mix of emotions. Romain and I imagined someone quite sophisticated but a little wild. A free spirit that do what he wants and is fearless about it." And for him the free spirits are much more attractive. "I'm fascinated by people who genuinely don't care to what others think."

"When we thought about the character in the film, we immediately imagined a younger Jean-Paul Belmondo. A seductive man, witty and fun." Robert Pattinson

"It's witty and sophisticated. But it also has something very honest in it," Pattinson says about the new video and sensual campaign that he shot for the fragrance Dior Homme. "I never felt like we were 'selling' anything during the time that we were of filming. It was just fun."

The second part of the article talks about his career, focusing on Edward and Twilight, with quotes from old interviews from New Moon promo (it's mentioned in the article that the quotes are from that promo). Nothing new, but here is the translation of his quotes - mostly about Twilight.:

"People thought it would be a "viking" movie. I thought that! I was already seeing myself in a disgusting wig and saying 'this is Edward'" The actor doesn't mince words when he speaks of his character. "People who hate the films tend to be very cynical and moralistic and generally speak of what they haven't seen. And I think I'm one of those cynical and moralist people that would have hated it, if I hadn't seen it,"
"When I read the book, I thought the author was crazy. It was as like she had dreamed about something very sexy and had written about her fantasies. But the book has a lot of action and turns out to be quite honest... what is a bit strange."
About the screaming fans "It seems they like this old-fashioned kind of guy, men who will open the car door and are real gentlemen. I thought they weren't attracted to that..."
Pattinson has two older sisters and says that they helped him develop a side... "kind of like a gentleman. I grew up surrounded by many girls, so I guess I have a different mentality." And did that help him understand women? " Maybe I've become more... patient!"
"I miss going to the movies in Los Angeles, that has the best cinemas in the world. I used to go four or five times a week but now it is impossible, with all cellphone cameras."

Nicole Kidman Talks About Rob, His Fans and 'Queen of the Desert'

At 1:05

If you haven't heard by now, the Oscar winner is likely replacing her bestie Naomi Watts to star opposite Pattinson in Queen of the Desert, a period piece about British writer, traveler, archeologist and spy Gertrude Bell.

"That's OK, I'll be ready," Kidman told me about the Twi-fans when I caught up with her Variety's Power of Women event on Friday. "I think they'll have a tough time finding us over there in Morocco, won't they?"

Kidman did admit she still isn't officially attached to the project. "It's not all signed, sealed and delivered," she said. "But…it's certainly in rapid sort of motion."
